One Ride Away… A Memoir by Tom Ritchey on Kickstarter
Legendary framebuilder Tom Ritchey tells his life story in a book for the first time.
A teenage racer and framebuilding prodigy, at barely 22 years old Tom Ritchey defined what the modern mountain bike would be, and, under the watch words of strength, lightness, and high performance, went on to create a string of innovations in bicycle design. After more than fifty years, he is a legend in the industry and remains the sole product developer at Ritchey Design, the company he founded at the age of sixteen.
In ONE RIDE AWAY FROM FIGURING IT OUT, he’ll share a lifetime of insights and reveal his thoughts on the beginnings of mountain biking and other events that have shaped the bicycle as we know it today.
From riding off-road as a teenager, soaking up the engineering wisdom of Jobst Brandt, to designing and building Ritchey MountainBikes and the heady days of early mountain-bike racing; and from the highs and lows of business to a reawakening of purpose and spirit in Rwanda, Tom writes with humility and candor of the hard work and chance that helped him survive. And how he remains optimistic that by learning lessons from the bicycle we can change the world for the better.
Keep reading at Kickstarter for more information, including on the special limited edition, and don’t miss out on this one! The book is being produced and published by Isola Press. Be a part of making this important book a reality.

The 2025 Ritchey Outback Comes in Size XXL
Our Ritchey Outback review is one of our top articles of all time on The Radavist, and that’s for obvious reasons. It’s the bike most people want, even if they do not know it yet, and the 2025 updates are sure to pique your interest even more in this versatile platform. For 2025, Ritchey gave the Outback ($1599 frameset) a few new standout features, including internal routing for a 27.2 dropper post, a rack mount on the fork crown, and internal dynamo routing. For 2025 color options, you can pick between Aurora and Winter Sage.
All this sounds great, but the “big” news is that the 2025 Ritchey Outback also comes in size XXL.
Rejoice.

No More UCI Rainbow Stripes for Ritchey WCS Products
Those rainbow stripes on cycling apparel, bikes, and components mean something. You can only don them officially after winning a victory at the Union Cycliste International (UCI) World Cup and Championship races. After 30+ years of donning the UCI this honor, the time has come for Ritchey — in accordance with UCI regulations — to retire the iconic rainbow stripes that dignify world champions in all cycling disciplines. The agreement between the UCI and Ritchey to use the world champion stripes expired at the end of 2024 and is not eligible for renewal.
The brand’s response is to convert the stripes to monochrome blue or grey colors, as seen above. Read all about this WCS rebrand at Ritchey.

From Beretta to Bicycles: Tom Ritchey on Investment Casting and 1990 Eisentraut Mountain Bike
We’re in a seemingly new era of bicycle framebuilding with the proliferation of 3D-printed components. While this movement might feel “unprecedented,” a similar thing happened with framebuilders in the mid-1980s and into the 1990s with technology borrowed from the Beretta gun manufacturer in Italy.
In what has to be one of our most intriguing Vintage Bicycles articles to date, John hops on a phone call with Tom Ritchey to discuss a rare 1990 Eisentraut mountain bike that Tom had recently acquired and the technology that made it possible.
