Taconic Rambler Boots: Queen City Footwear for Ron’s Bikes

Ronnie from Ron’s Bikes and Matt from Queen City Footwear set out to design the ultimate New England hiking bike boot and from those conversations, the Taconic Rambler Boots ($475) were born. This collaboration melds Ronnie’s intimate knowledge of trail riding and Matt’s expertise in footwear design and engineering.

The boots are made from scratch at Queen City’s shop in Vermont on it stitchdown platform, which allows for easy resoling and great durabilty. The upper is a thick, 5-6 oz leather tanned from US hides that will hold up well and breathe nicely, and it’s trimmed with 4mm merino wool felt in the tongue and collar for cushion and great moisture regulation. Other details include a fiberglass shank in the midsole for support, solid brass hardware that will never rust, and a reflective pull tab for visibilty.

They ship with 2 insoles: our breathable molded ortholite footbed and 4mm merino wool insole so you can try them both out.

Queen City Footwear and Ron’s Bikes are capping this first batch at 50 pairs. Check out more at Queen City Footwear.

San Util Has Restocked its Mini Panniers

Our collaborative project with San Util Design, the Mini Panniers, have been restocked. John contacted Adam from San Util back when he was restoring his Ritchey Everest for a simple, no-hardware, no-hassle pannier design that would fit the functionality of everything from lightweight to expedition racks like Tumbleweed’s offerings. These panniers retail for $125 each, totaling $250 for the pair. The Mini Panniers capacity varies from rolled tight at 4.5 L to overstuffed at 7 L. Each pannier weighs 227 grams for the EPX200 fabric, or 339 grams for waxed canvas.

Panniers are perhaps the oldest bag designed for carrying things on your bike, and these new designs offer a stripped-down functionality everyone ought to try.

Black, Coyote, or Grey Waxed are in stock and shipping today from San Util, or you can order custom colors, too.
