To help raise money for two Los Angeles non-profits, San Marino’s The Cub House is holding a fundraiser raffle. Up for grabs is a tricked-out Stooge Speedbomb build for the Lowelifes Respectable Citizens Club, as well as a Beach Club Al Dente benefiting the Los Angeles Bicycle Academy. Let’s check them out in detail below!
For cyclists, some bikes feel like an extension of ourselves. They offer comfort and familiarity. For Lowelifes RCC founder Matt Baffert, his Advocate Cycles Hayduke Ti was that bike. He spent nearly a decade riding it in the San Gabriel Mountains, taking it on trail work days, scouting missions, and camping trips. When Matt lost his home in the Eaton Fire, his beloved Hayduke burned with most of his belongings. Then, the local community rallied, and a new Esker Cycles Hayduke Ti rose from the ashes…
The Condor Peak Trail is located in the Angeles National Forest, offering stunning views of the surrounding San Gabriel National Monument. Maintained by the Lowelifes, Condor Peak Trail is our second in the non-profit’s Dream Trail series, supported by Fox Racing. Let’s check it out!
There are no trail gnomes. Trails don’t maintain themselves, especially after flash flooding and fires. In steep and relentless terrain like Los Angeles’s San Gabriel Mountains, a few crews look out for trail users. In these mountains, one group, in particular, the Lowelifes Respectable Citizens’ Club, keeps those ribbons of stoke running smoothly. Read on for a look at the Lowelifes and the crew’s contribution to the trails of the San Gabriel Mountains, presented by Fox Racing…
Kenyon DeVore is a trail in the Angeles National Forest on Mount Wilson (5,713′). Partially shielded from the Bobcat Fire in 2020, this lush, wooded section of singletrack remains unburned. It offers a unique look into a north-facing ecosystem high in the San Gabriel Mountains. Maintained by the Lowelifes, Kenyon DeVore is our first in the non-profit’s Dream Trail series, sponsored by Fox Racing. Let’s check it out!

Our good homie Matt Baffert from one of Los Angeles’ trail working crews, Lowelifes, lost his home in the Eaton Fire. LAist ran a story on him today and it’s worth the read!
“Two months and six days after the Eaton Fire broke out, on the very same day the Army Corps of Engineers came with bulldozers to clear the rubble of his burned down home, Matt Baffert finally got back out on the mountain trails.
“Idlehour Trail…in the upper Eaton Canyon,” he said. “For lack of a better word, my second home.”
Baffert works as a construction contractor by day. In his free time, he’s an avid mountain biker and trail steward, repairing trails after wildfires, floods and other mayhem in the Angeles National Forest. In 2019, he co-founded the Lowelifes Respectable Citizens’ Club, a dedicated nonprofit group of volunteer trail builders and menders.”

As this is being published, the fires around Los Angeles have been burning for about a week. The areas that haven’t burned are being gently showered in the ashes of the areas that have. Travis lives in an area that hasn’t burned. And as he looked around his yard this weekend, he was thinking a lot about those ashes.
Sunday was dirt church as the team got together to shoot the new Fabrica De Rosas x Crust Bikes jerseys. Give it a watch as they ride in Whittier, CA, and visit Sam’s beautiful ranch to meet his horses. Con much amor, gracias!
