Help Defend the Roadless Rule! THE DEADLINE IS TODAY!

Public Lands are once again at risk. Help defend the Roadless Rule! The Roadless Rule protects 58 million acres of National Forests spanning 42 states, and includes some of the most iconic places in the country for riding bikes, hiking, skiing, climbing, fishing, hunting, and more…

Roadless Rule

Secretary of the USDA Brooke Collins recently announced the agency’s plans to roll back the Roadless Rule, putting backcountry recreation at risk of inappropriate development like road building, logging, and extraction. Rescinding these public land protections will require a full rulemaking process, but you can write your lawmakers now!

The Roadless Rule protects 58 million acres of National Forests spanning 42 states, and includes some of the most iconic places in the country for outdoor recreation. Last month, the administration, at the direction of Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, announced its intent to rescind it. This would be devastating for backcountry recreation, public lands, as well as clean air and water, and climate resilience.

Call to Action

The Roadless Rule was established in 2001 to “provide lasting protection in the context of multiple-use management” for roadless areas on our National Forests and Grasslands. This means that we cannot build new roads or harvest timber on these Roadless Areas, but they are still open for a range of recreational activities, including climbing, hiking, hunting, fishing, mountain biking, paddling, and backcountry skiing.

Rescinding these protections will require a full rulemaking process, and Outdoor Alliance will use that process to help educate the public and the administration about the importance of protecting backcountry recreation. The circus running the White House will not stop in its attempts to sell off public lands, and we must stay vigilant!
