Readers’ Rides: Teddy’s 1992 Litespeed “Mountain” Basket Bike

For this week’s Readers’ Rides, Teddy shares with us his shreddy basket bike built upon a 1992 Litespeed “Mountain” chassis…

I wanted to send my bike in for Readers’ Rides now that it’s finally at a point that I am comfortable calling done.

The frame is from ‘92, but the serial number is in Litespeed’s database as a 56cm Ultimate. However, if you reference catalogs (the ’92 specific catalog is lost to time as far as I can tell), it’s definitely a mountain frame.

Sometime during this frame’s life, the non-drive side rear canti stud sheared off, and the stud itself is welded on, not threaded. So the best solution was obviously to build it up with a roller brake hub. The Grafton Maglite brake (also released in 92) was missing all of the hardware, so John Grafton offered to rebuild it for me.

I painted the stem and post using Duracoat firearm finish in Belgian Frog Camo.
